Palm Beach Dyno · Standalone Engine Management

Standalone ECU Tuning

From street cars to dedicated race programs, Palm Beach Dyno provides complete standalone ECU calibration for high-performance applications using Holley EFI, Haltech, MoTeC, FuelTech and other leading engine management systems.

Our standalone tuning goes well beyond making a few dyno pulls. We can handle the complete calibration process — startup, drivability, power development, boost control, safety strategies, traction management and track refinement.

Whether the vehicle is here at our facility or being tuned remotely, the goal is the same: build a calibration around the combination and how the vehicle is actually going to be used.

Proven on the Track

Standalone tuning is a major part of some of the most advanced vehicles we work with. These cars represent very different combinations, power levels and racing programs — and demonstrate the range of what we can support.

Anotha' 5 is a highly developed single-turbo Coyote program that has continued to progress through dyno development, datalog analysis and trackside refinement.

At this level, the calibration is constantly evolving with the vehicle. Boost control, power management, fueling, ignition and track conditions all become part of the process.

The Joker is a great example of how much detail goes into a well-developed naturally aspirated combination.

With no power adder involved, small improvements in airflow, cam timing, fueling, ignition and overall calibration can make a measurable difference. We have worked closely with the program as the car has continued to push the limits of the naturally aspirated Coyote platform.

Jhalil built Ziptie from the ground up, and Palm Beach Dyno works with him on the Haltech engine management and calibration side of the combination.

Projects like this are exactly why we enjoy standalone tuning. We can work directly with the builder, understand how the entire vehicle is configured and develop the ECU around the specific goals of the car.

What standalone tuning covers

More Than a Dyno Tune

Every standalone project is different.

Some vehicles arrive already running and simply need calibration and refinement. Others require sensor configuration, startup calibration, boost control, safety strategies and substantial development before they ever make a full-power dyno pull.

Our standalone tuning can include:

Base Calibration & StartupSensor configuration, fuel system setup, injector data, cranking, idle, cold start and initial safety strategies.
Dyno DevelopmentFuel, ignition timing, cam control, boost control and power management developed under controlled load on our in-house chassis dyno.
DrivabilityPart-throttle fueling, transient response, idle control, startup behavior and the details that make a high-performance vehicle enjoyable away from wide-open throttle.
Boost & Power ManagementWastegate control, boost-by-gear, boost-by-speed, traction strategies and power management tailored to the vehicle and application.
Safety StrategiesFuel pressure, oil pressure, coolant temperature, boost and other available protections can be incorporated into the calibration when supported by the ECU and vehicle configuration.
Datalog & Track RefinementThe dyno establishes the foundation. Datalogging allows us to continue refining the combination in the environment where it will actually be used.
Remote & Trackside SupportMany standalone programs can be supported remotely, and trackside tuning is available for select projects and events.
Platforms

Standalone Platforms We Tune

We regularly work with several of the industry's leading standalone engine management systems.

Holley EFI

Dominator · HP · Terminator X

Holley EFI is one of the platforms we work with most frequently, particularly on high-performance street, drag racing and Coyote applications.

Haltech

Nexus · Elite

Haltech offers extensive engine management, logging, power management and vehicle control capabilities for both street and motorsports applications.

MoTeC

M1 · M1 Build

For applications requiring advanced control strategies, motorsports functionality and extensive data acquisition, we support MoTeC M1-based systems.

FuelTech

FT550 · FT600 · FuelTech Ecosystem

FuelTech integrates engine management, data acquisition and motorsports functionality into a platform commonly used in high-horsepower racing applications.

Using Something Else? These are the systems we work with most often, but they aren't the only platforms we may be able to support. Call us with the ECU and details of your combination and we'll determine whether it's a project we can take on.

Built Around Your Combination

There isn't a universal standalone tuning package because there isn't a universal standalone build.

A vehicle that is already wired, configured and running requires a very different amount of work than a new combination that needs startup calibration, sensor configuration, boost control and complete dyno development.

For that reason, standalone tuning is quoted based on the individual project.

A short conversation usually gives us enough information to understand the scope of the job and recommend the best way to approach it.

Before You Call

It helps to have the following information available:

  • ECU brand and model
  • Engine combination
  • Naturally aspirated, turbo, supercharged or nitrous
  • Fuel system and fuel type
  • Transmission and converter or clutch combination
  • Current condition of the vehicle and whether it already runs
  • Intended use — street, drag racing, roll racing, standing mile, road course, etc.
  • Whether the vehicle will be coming to Palm Beach Dyno or tuned remotely

Let's Talk About Your Project

Standalone vehicles tend to be unique, so we prefer to understand the combination before recommending a tuning plan.

Tell us what you're building, what engine management system you're using and what you want the car to do.
